Benefits of Wearing Sunscreen Daily
We’ve always been told to wear sunscreen … but what effect does it really have on your skin?
Wearing sunscreen is the number one anti-ager that can prevent premature wrinkles. Even if you’ve never been sunburned your skin can still be damaged by the sun without proper protection from those harsh UV rays.
UVA and UVB rays deteriorate the elastin in your skin and, as a result, you’ll notice premature aging like fine lines and wrinkles. Over time you lose the plumpness in your skin, which comes from skin elasticity; and sun damage speeds up that natural aging process.
Aside from aging your skin, too much sun exposure mutates your skin cells. Your skin is constantly shedding old cells and replacing those with new ones. But, if your skin cells are damaged, then they replicate new, damaged cells. Mutations in the cells are often what lead to skin cancer. Even low levels of sun damage cause pigmentation of the skin (like freckles or dark spots) which dull your complexion.
It’s important to understand that sun damage doesn’t just happen from a day at the beach -- any daily activity done outdoors, without sunscreen, truly adds up. That’s why it’s extremely important to make sure sunscreen is in your daily skincare routine.
Whether you’re a fan of spray or lotion sunscreens, check the label to make sure you’re using at least an SPF 30 or higher and one that blocks both aging sun rays (UVA) and burning rays (UVB). Keep sunscreen handy – carry one in your purse, keep one in your bathroom, leave one in your office or car – to always make sure you’re protected.
And every morning before you get ready, apply your sunscreen. Think about it like washing your face, once it becomes a daily habit, you rarely forget to do it. When applying your sunscreen, make sure you’re getting every exposed body part – that means your face, ears, neck, arms, hands and feet.
Still craving tan skin? Spray tans are an excellent (and much safer) option.
While we’ve been conditioned to believe tan skin is beautiful skin, it’s really the opposite. To be the very best version of yourself, it’s important to take care of your body from the inside out. Sun bathing damages your skin, speeds up the aging process and increases your chances of getting skin cancer.
In addition to your daily skincare routine, it’s important to get regular facials. Facials moisturize your skin, reverse visible signs of aging, improve skin tone and texture, evens redness, lessens skin sensitivity, diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and reduces blemishes and breakouts.
